Council meetings are the cornerstone of counselor education. Your local clubs gather to take advantage of combined resources to share ideas and provide workshops tailored to your local needs.

Clarion Newsletter

The Clarion provides counselors with inspirational and practical articles, merit badge updates, and new project ideas. The Clarion is published three times every Cadet season (fall, winter, and spring). The electronic version (PDF) of the Clarion is FREE to all registered counselors! If you want a paper copy mailed to you the yearly subscription is $8 US and $10 CAN — contact the office to order 616-241-5616 ext. 4. If you are a counselor and have not received this important tool, make sure your club has registered for the current season. Counselor Certification

This is an open book test designed to help leaders become familiar with all aspects of cadeting. Leaders must take this course before they may wear the counselor stripe on their uniform shirt. You can download the written version of the Counselor Certification Course here.

Counselor Conventions

​It is a gathering of Cadet counselors and their families from all over North America. The primary function of this event is education — equipping men so that they can be more effective servants of the Lord in their clubs and councils. Because the counselor’s ministry to boys relies heavily on the support and blessing of a counselor’s entire family, the host council prepares special programs and activities for the children and special workshops and events for the spouses.

Regional Conferences

Where there are concentrations of clubs within reasonable driving distance, the local councils in that region host annual weekend conferences. These events will allow the counselors to receive training and share ideas in a form that will fit their financial and time constraints.
