PURPOSE

To give the Cadets a basic knowledge of how electric motors work, since they are used in so many things today.

Other Supply Suggestions

Motor materials:

  • One “D” cell battery

  • Two large paper clips (or two laser cut cradles).

  • Three feet of motor winding wire (also called magnet wire); 20 AWG works well. Part #101-751 at www.parts-express.com

  • One ceramic magnet; 5-6 lbs of pull works well. Part #5738K31 at www.mcmaster.com .

  • One rubber band (or more if they break!).

 

Other supplies:

  • Tape measure

  • Wire cutter

  • Sharpie

  • Needle nose pliers (if using paper clips)

  • Sandpaper

  • Glue (optional: if you want to glue the ends of the wire coil)
